Literature Bookmarks

As a child I loved to read. At three-years-old I surrounded myself with books studying the letters and words until I broke the code and became a reader. I often walked around with a book in my hands. Summer afternoons were for lazily laying around reading a book either in bed or floating in a pool.  But then in school came the endless worksheets and comprehension questions that made reading a chore, and I no longer enjoyed it and despite good scores on these worksheets my reading comprehension was not great and my reading ability was stagnate. I just checked off the boxes and followed the script without growing and learning.

Now as a mom and homeschooler I want to instill a love of reading and learning while helping my children grow in their reading and thinking skills. Out of this desire, I developed the Literature Bookmarks. A literature curriculum to help children maintain their love of reading while growing and nurturing their vocabulary and understanding.

The Literature Bookmarks are simple to use and can be done while sitting on your couch, so your child can associate reading with good memories.  There’s one bookmark for each chapter or section of the book. On the front are words to practice decoding and vocabulary words taken from that part of the book and the back has comprehension questions to ask and discuss the book. Sit and go over the words on the front, listen to your child read a page or two out loud if you want and then afterwards or the following day discuss the comprehension questions. Easy Peasy!
