Full-Year Online Language Arts Class for Grades 4–7

Throughout the year, students will:
📚 Read and discuss quality literature
✏ Develop strong writing skills
🧠 Build reading comprehension and critical-thinking skills

🔤 Strengthen grammar, sentence structure, and language skills
📖 Expand vocabulary through context and word study
📝 Practice different types of writing
🎭 Explore short stories, poetry, biographies, and nonfiction
Through this online class students will be encouraged to infer, analyze, make connections, discuss different perspectives, and support their ideas with evidence from the text.
Each novel will have a different language arts focus, allowing students to explore character, theme, vocabulary, point of view, author’s craft, figurative language, and more. Students will begin by learning to identify character traits and support their ideas with evidence, then progress to making inferences, analyzing character development and theme, exploring setting and point of view, examining conflict and author’s craft, and developing their understanding of vocabulary, figurative language, poetry, and nonfiction. By the end of the year, students will apply these skills to more independent reading, discussion, and writing.
Learning Together & Building Community
Learning is more meaningful when students have the opportunity to share their ideas with others. Our small-group format gives students the opportunity to build connections, make friends, and become part of a welcoming learning community.
Through weekly discussions, collaborative activities, and conversations about the books we read, students will practice listening to others, sharing their own ideas, asking questions, and respectfully considering different perspectives.
My goal is to create a classroom where students feel comfortable participating, valued for their ideas, and excited to see their classmates each week.
How the Class Works
We meet once a week online for a 60-minute live class. Students will have reading and assignments to complete between classes so that our live meetings can focus on discussion, instruction, writing, and interactive language activities.
The class is designed for students who enjoy reading, want to become stronger writers, and are ready to think more deeply about literature and language.
About the Instructor
Amy has over 20 years of experience in education, including elementary and special education teaching, homeschooling, and tutoring. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in education and is passionate about helping students become confident readers, writers, and thinkers. Amy is also a certified EBLI instructor and provides reading and writing tutoring.
📚 Literature
Throughout the year, students will read:
- The Wild Robot — Peter Brown
- The Search for Delicious — Natalie Babbitt
- The Tale of Despereaux — Kate DiCamillo
Students will also read short stories, poetry, biographies, and nonfiction selections throughout the year.

Grade Level: 4–7
Format: Online, small-group class
Live Class: 60 minutes once a week
Platform: Koala Go
Class Size: 5–10 students
Course Length: 25 weeks / one 12-week semester and one 13-week semester
Homework: Approximately 1–2 hours per week, including reading
Tuition: $195 for the fall semester and $210 for the spring semester
Class Times
Tuesdays: 12:00–1:00 PM ET
OR
Wednesdays: 1:00–2:00 PM ET.

Spring Semester – 13 weeks

Monthly Payment Option
The monthly payment option allows families to try the class without committing to the full semester. Tuition is billed at the beginning of each month, and families may choose to discontinue at the end of any month.
Refund Policy for Semester Payment
Families who pay for the full semester in advance may request a refund according to the following schedule:
Fall Semester
- Withdraw by September 16, 2026 → Full refund
- Withdraw by October 15, 2026 → 50% refund
- After October 15, 2026 → No refunds
Spring Semester
- Withdraw by January 13, 2027 → Full refund
- Withdraw by February 15, 2027 → 50% refund
- After February 15, 2027 → No refunds
